In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the heart of our international supply chain operations, ensuring seamless import and export compliance while driving the efficient, cost-effective movement of goods across borders. With a focus on high-volume shipments and strict delivery schedules, your expertise will help maintain continuity and excellence in our global logistics network.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Ensure full compliance with HMRC regulations, international shipping laws, and customs procedures, including accurate documentation for all import and export activities.
  • Act as the company’s customs expert, liaising with HMRC, customs brokers, and freight forwarders to resolve clearance issues and manage duty deferment accounts.
  • Monitor changes in trade regulations, conduct internal audits, and provide training to ensure ongoing customs compliance across departments.
  • Collaborate with procurement, production, sales, and warehousing teams to align logistics strategies with business goals and operational cycles.
  • Oversee logistics operations including freight negotiation, carrier management, and KPI monitoring, while driving cost efficiency and service quality.
  • Maintain systems for tobacco control compliance, uphold GDPR standards, and support departmental growth through policy implementation and staff development.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Previous relevant experience with a UK-based freight forwarder, specialising in both import and export operations.
  • Extensive expertise in customs clearance, with a strong grasp of end-to-end procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK and international customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and rules of origin.
  • Proficient in customs software and EDI systems, with hands-on experience in digital documentation and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proven negotiation skills and a track record of resolving complex clearance issues.
  • Able to work independently under pressure, consistently meeting tight deadlines in fast-paced logistics environments.
