The Sensory and Consumer Science Sensometrics Researcher will report to the Head of Sensory & Consumer Science Combustibles and support the Sensory and Consumer Science (SCS) Team, including all SCS sub-teams through statistical analysis, model development, research design and driver analysis execution for all category research – this includes Sense Hub studies and research conducted with external partners.
The Sensometrics Researcher will work in close collaboration with other members of the SCS, Insights communities and category / Marketing teams to deliver on key business questions and implement effective research statistics and methodology to deliver business value and drive direction for technical projects and product development.
Principle Accountabilities
- Translate complex data and analytics into clear, actionable insights and strategic recommendations that add business value.
- Design and execute robust research approaches, including Design of Experiments (DoE), acceptance modelling, and the integration of advanced analytics and machine learning techniques.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, research peers, and senior stakeholders through clear reporting, visualisation, and presentations.
- Act as a key point of contact for continuity in acceptance modelling and knowledge transfer across categories.
- Collaborate with Sensory & Consumer Science colleagues and multi-disciplinary project teams to understand research needs and ensure the application of relevant, forward-thinking methodologies.
- Drive the development of digital tools, platforms, and IT infrastructure to enable automation and enhance data integration, insight generation, and scalability.
- Demonstrate a passion for uncovering consumer perspectives and applying these insights to deepen product understanding and support innovation across research categories.
- Manage research requirements proactively, ensuring timely and effective delivery aligned with strategic business goals.
Skills and Experience Required
- Master in Statistics, Data Science, Psychometrics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; or Master / Bachelor in Human Sciences (e.g. Psychology, Social Science, Food Science, Marketing) with strong applied experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sensory and consumer science or related industries (e.g. FMCG, food & beverage, tobacco, fragrance, or health).
- Proven expertise in statistical techniques such as ANOVA, PCA, regression modelling, clustering, preference mapping, and mixed models.
- Proficient in statistical software such as R, JMP, Python, SAS, SPSS, Unscrambler, XLStat, EyeQuestion, or Compusense.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to clearly present complex data to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Skilled in project planning and managing multiple priorities with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Proficient in PowerPoint and effective at creating visually engaging reports that support data-driven decision-making.
- Passionate about consumer understanding and using data to drive innovation and product development.
