Principal Accountabilities
- Lead the development of electronics and firmware for innovative device concepts, including hands-on work in component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, firmware programming, and prototype commissioning.
- Oversee multiple concurrent technology investigations, generating and documenting novel ideas, collaborating with the IP team, and designing around competitor patents.
- Manage end-to-end prototype development, from concept through iterative testing, including the design and construction of bespoke test rigs to validate engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with third-party partners and suppliers, building ecosystems to support innovation objectives and leveraging external capabilities for rapid development and proof-of-concept prototypes.
- Cultivate strong supplier relationships to gain early access to emerging technologies and integrate them into concept development and prototyping activities.
- Mentor and support engineers across the wider team, sharing expertise and helping to build internal skills and capabilities.
Skills and Experience Required
- Degree-qualified in Electronic Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent), with experience delivering multiple full product developments across the entire lifecycle.
- Proficient in schematic capture and PCB design for low-power applications, with hands-on experience in PCB modification and testing.
- Skilled in firmware development in C for bare-metal and RTOS environments, using IDEs such as Keil, STM32CubeIDE, MCUXpresso, or TI Code Composer Studio.
- Expert in using electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and signal generators, with a strong practical approach to debugging and validation.
- Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Experienced in leading projects and collaborating with internal teams and external partners, with a research-driven mindset suited to exploring unknowns and developing innovative solutions.
