The Role
The Role: Product Stewardship Toxicologist
Location: Bristol
Job Grade: GG8
To provide specialist advice in support of the Product Stewardship assessment and understanding the use of ingredients and materials of interest to IMB, across combustible and NGP Portfolio. Make a proactive contribution to the future of toxicological assessments by overlooking and driving the Product Stewardship Testing Programme.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide, to the highest professional standards, advice and interpretation related to both the toxicology evaluation and testing of ingredients and finished products (and related issues) based on in-depth experience.
- Act as toxicologist and product risk assessment Subject Matter Expert (SME) on a range of projects covering I2L NGP, PMTA and other Regulatory and Research projects.
- Manage the design and implementation of refined risk assessment models and ensure that toxicology risk assessment models and processes are fit for internal and regulatory purposes and to meet the company needs rapidly and cost-effectively. Ensure that exposure models and consumption models are regularly reviewed - make proposals for refinements to the PSHG.
- Provide expert advice on health related consumer complaints in line with the internal RAP process and EU General Product Safety Directive.
- Ensure that the relevant technical and reporting compliance activities are performed in an efficient and timely manner e.g. production of toxicological profiles for ingredients, ensure maintenance of reporting database and provision of files to the RoW and EU reporting teams.
- Contribute to the process to monitor, evaluate and report the developments in toxicology testing and risk assessment.
- Maintain professional knowledge of Regulations, Standards, Guidelines etc. relevant to Product Stewardship and Health and make recommendations on advances in these areas.
- Raise awareness of the AGP throughout the business
- Maintain professional standards (maintain CPD, and registration as a European Registered Toxicologist).
- Represent the company externally in relevant industry groups and scientific conferences/meetings and write external publications or critiques.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the company’s positions on technical regulatory issues and contribute and/or lead on discussions in the interpretation of new or amended regulations which have toxicological relevance.
Key Skills & Experience
- Post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in Toxicology
- Experience in a commercial, industrial, or regulatory environment
- EU Registered Toxicologist status or equivalent
- The ability to abstract & review scientific literature, provide thorough critiques and contextualise scientific developments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to convey complex scientific information at an appropriate level (non-technical, senior management, Industry to Industry)
- Self-motivated, logical, dependable, and able to work accurately under pressure to achieve deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Computer literate as a user
- Strong influencing skills and experience
